Hapkiyoosool -
Traditional Martial Arts for a Modern World
Hapkiyoosool, the foundation of modern Hapkido, is not so well known
in the west but known in its country of origin (South Korea) as far back
as 5,000 years and commonly refereed to in the west as “Korean jujutsu”
is a mixed combative, full-contact style based on real world
application…
Its origin lies within its foundation, the study of the sciences
(anatomy, physiology, psychology, physics and geometry). This most
effective style was utilized by the Korean warriors of old all the way
up to the special forces of the modern day South Korean and American
military. Remembering that only the best, or those who triumphantly
survived the battlefield, were worthy to teach this awe inspiring
system. The main idea that Hapkiyoosool teaches is that no matter how small
you are or how much bigger and stronger your adversary is – with the
usage of a proper technique and with an option of using your environment
as well as weapons, anyone can ultimately win!
It is successfully effective using defensive tactics against punches,
kicks, grabs or any other attack. Standing, ground fighting, choke
holds, pressure point and joint-locks compose a basis for this fighting
technique that uses specific tricks to work around a stronger fight
opponent.
Also, Hapkiyoosool has always been known not just as a martial art
and vigorous exercising system, but also as a Korean “Do” concept –
which means a “lifestyle” or “way of life”…
